Union's Split on ABC race: LA County Fed of Labor say's NO to ABCFT candidates Celia Spitzer and Maynard Law, and YES to Reyes, Dodson, Howard Kim

Hey, it's me... RANDY ECONOMY, America's Political Pirate it is now Friday, November 02, 2007

Campaign Quickie

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor/AFL-CIO said "NO" to ABC School Board Incumbent Celia Spitzer and her running mate Maynard Law in their bid for ABC School Board in next Tuesday's election.

This was a surprise to me, since the ABC Federation of Teachers is bankrolling the campaigns of Spitzer, Law, and Incumbents Louise Dodson and Armin Reyes.

The ABCFT will spend over $75,000 to keep control of the ABC School Board.

The LA County Fed also endorsed challenger Howard Kim, and again, NO to Spitzer and Law.

Why would the LA County Fed turn it's back on the campaigns of Law and Spitzer? Is this payback for the Artesia High School debacle?

This is a huge slap in the face to the leadership of the ABC Teachers Union.
So, be careful this weekend when you are approached by the ABC Federation of Teacher. Remember, the real Los Angeles County Federation of Labor supports candidates Howard Kim, Louise Dodson, and Armin Reyes.

Since this election could be won by "Declined to State" and Moderate Democrats and Republicans, who tend not to support Union politics here, this could actually be good news for the Indenpendent thinking campaigns of former Assemblywoman Sally Havice, and challengers Sophia Tse and David Schaffer.
Havice, Tse, and Schaffer did not recieve any significant Labor support in this campaign...which could be a good thing. Law, Spitzer, Reyes, and Dodson's campaigns have been almost been totally bankrolled by the ABC FT, and it's political Director Gavin Riley, and ABCFT President Laura Rico.

ABC Teachers Union: Rude. Crude. Classless. Attack dawg' Gavin Riley strikes again.

Hey, it's me... RANDY ECONOMY, America's Political Pirate it is now Friday, October 26, 2007

(Left: The ABC "Mod Squad." Law. Dotson Dodson. Reyes. Spitzer. Right: ABCFT Political Director Gavin Riley (yellow sweatshirt) walks Precincts in East Lakewood for ABC School Incumbents.)
VOTER ALERT!

Did you see the sleezy attack today in the Cerritos Community News on ABC School Board Candidate Sally Havice from ABC Federation of Teachers Political Director Gavin Riley?

Mr. Riley has stooped to the lowest possible political trick. Hit low below the belt a week before the election, then run and hide from the Voters. Repeat again and again. Lie. Cheat. Destroy the Opposition.

Read his letter. He is rude, crude, offensive and needs to be FIRED by the Rank and File of the ABCFT ASAP. His comments and false accusations against an Honorable lady like Mrs. Havice cannot go unanswered.

Riley is running the campaigns for ABC School Board Incumbents Celia Spitzer, Louise Dotson Dodson, Armin Reyes and candidate Maynard Law.

Why are these four candidates allowing Riley to do their dirty work? The personal character attacks on Sally Havice is sick and needs to be halted.

We voters are paying attention. We will not tolerate this type of campaign in our fine community. It's time for the ABC School Board Incumbents to distance themselves from Gavin Riley, once and for all.

Get a hold of the Cerritos Community News. Read Page 5 under "Dear Editor." Then, call Mrs. Spitzer, Mr. Reyes, Ms. Dotson Dodson and Mr. Law and ask them why they condone such "hate speak" on behalf of their campaigns. They are listed in the phone book.

Let's send a message. We deserve better.

Riley also attacked outgoing ABC School Board member Cecy Groom this past week, no less than 3 times with false rancor that has become his "trademark." Why is Riley so angry? Why can't he look for the good in people?

Let's ALL stand UP to Bully's like Gavin Riley.

Sally Havice authored the California Anti Bullying Bill when she served as our State Assemblywoman. It's sad that any student is taught by the likes of teachers who are on personal missions of attacking those of us who pay for his six-figure retirement salary.

It's time for a New ABC School Board. Vote. Change. WE have the Power and the Votes.

Very Concerned Parent Wants to Read Candidates' Responses

Dear Sir,

I would like to read the candidates' responses to the questions.

1. I do not support any abcusd property being used for non educational purposes.

2. It should be decided by election.

3. I do not have any problem with teachers' increased pay however I want to see how much amount is spend on children's well being and educational needs.

4. Every September when it is time to go back to school I feel stressed. The shopping for school supplies and other expenses throughout the year is such a pain. Since we live in cerritos and have enough funds from businesses, enterprises and government funds, why the parents have to pay for everything from the facial tissue to printing paper. I have noticed that abc is one of the school districts where you would find great volunteers. Any time of the day you go to school, you would see parents are helping teachers or making copies for the next class because we care about our children and their academic progress therefore we do anything to enhance their learning. Why do we have to pay for music and PE teacher? Aren't they part of instructional curriculum? Aren't they staff members? They should be paid by the government and all the other monetary sources that the district get the funding for running our schools. Every other week my children would come home and ask for $10 or $5 for some activities that they need the money for at school. At my daughter's school if you don't bring all the school supplies listed by the teachers you would loose points. How ridiculous it is!! children also tell me if they don't take whatever is required they would be made fun of. Parents like me send the supplies and donation and other money here and there throughout the year because we don't have any option. Teachers say the district doesn't have the budget for all the things we need for our children.

5. You are telling that we get the funding from state and federal government so where does the money go?

6. Who is pocketing the money if it is not used for our children? who is accoutable for the expenditure of all the funds received by the district? ABC is considered one of the richest school Districts. We need to know what is happening, what is going on?

7. school lunch: it is a joke. The food provided is not nutritious. The district needs to change it and try to provide a healthy, nutritious meal to the kids.

Thank you,

A very concerned Parent

Letter to Cerritos Councilmen Bruce Barrows

Councilmen Barrows,

Thank you for your quick reply,

When we inquired about your stand, a year ago, instead of answering directly you told us to go to the HOA website to see where you stood. That led us to believe you were as against this project as thousands of Cerritos residents and why we voted for you. If your stand was "Nay" that still leaves us baffled as to why you did not support Mayor Lee and her "No" vote.

There have been lots of changes in the plan, that's true, but ... the basic plan has never changed.

We are against ...

A fiscally irresponsible project:

  • No one as shown what the real cost of the maintenance of the housing project will be over an extended period of time, ie. 50 years.

  • The city purchasing property for the school district when part of the reasoning for this project is to work with the district's excess property.

  • Committing the city to a 50-year lease unnecessarily.

  • In one Council meeting a city resident mentioned that Northern California had a leasing project where the lease has run out and it is costing them to relocate renters. If this is true then this project becomes an extreme liability to the City of Cerritos at the end of the 50-years.

Tying up school property for 50 years.

Any leasing projects that have to do with the ABC School District.

The ABC School Board getting into the real-estate business.

Residents footing the bills:

  • The ABC School Board building on any location at the expense of the residents. The location is not the issue.

  • Nor is the location of the low-income housing project.

  • Nor is the need for this project to be done.

Cerritos Planning Committee looking for loopholes (breaking voting laws) to go around the will of the people.

It appears obvious that the City Administration is attempting to spend all the Agency’s money at once. They have somewhat of a reason for doing that. But, why don’t they take this money and buy more of the industrial park and build the housing on that property with a developer as they have done in the past? Buying the property will take quite a bit of the money and the developer will end up with the rest and the liability for the future. We have to spend the money no matter what - but why should we leave the liability for our children and grandchildren?

We don't believe anything new will be presented at this October meeting ... only the numbers will change (once again). And even if there is new information

... judging from the Councils actions in the past ... you will have to abstain from voting so you can once again go over their "new" plan. So, either 3 no votes or 3 votes to table the project is what is acceptable.

So, again - if, after a year of seriously studying this project one can't see how bad this will be for future Cerritos residents we believe they are not putting the best interests of the residents or the students before the School Board. It seems to be boiling down to who runs Cerritos ... the ABC School Board ... or ... elected representatives ... which the residents voted in to do the will of the people.

Sincerely,

Dale & Marilyn Brown
